As part of centennial celebrations in the Archdiocese of Winnipeg, a centenary icon of the Holy Family was commissioned and is currently visiting churches across the archdiocese.
After its tour, the icon will be permanently on display at St. Mary's Cathedral.
The icon was designed and written by Andre Prevost.
The background of the icon is a landscape representing Manitoba.
The focus is Our Lady and St. Joseph presenting young Jesus to the world, the initial proclaiming.
In the upper right-hand corner is depicted the 6,000-year-old Aboriginal meeting place at the Forks of the Assiniboine and Red rivers.
The icon includes depictions of the city and its archdiocese, as well as well-known people who contributed to the founding and development of the Church in southern Manitoba.
A full description of the icon can be found at www.archwinnipeg.ca/jubilee_year.php. Professional quality prints of the icon are also available in various sizes.
