Executive Secretary/Editorial Assistant
Reporting to the Editor/General Manager, this temporary position will be responsible for providing secretarial, receptionist and editorial assistant duties for the Western Catholic Reporter newspaper office. A key function of this role is to provide well-developed proofreading capabilities. Due to planned organization changes, we are looking for an individual who is flexible and adaptable.
The specific responsibilities include: critically proofread the weekly edition of the newspaper and the annual Alberta Catholic Directory; continually update the newspaper’s mailing and circulation lists to meet Canada Post standards; sort and direct incoming mail and prepare and mail outgoing materials and correspondence; maintain a registry of all incoming cheques; assist with production and mailing of the Alberta Catholic Directory; make arrangements for meetings of the board of directors and its committees; and provide a reception service for the office.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess a strong knowledge of the English language especially grammar and spelling; knowledge of Microsoft Office and some basic accounting; strong interpersonal skills in dealing with the public and clients of the newspaper; a high degree of attention to detail as well as a demonstrated ability to be adaptable. The successful applicant should have a knowledge and appreciation of the Catholic faith and Church.
This is a temporary position and there will be some flexibility in the required hours of work.
