The story of Jesus and the Holy Spirit continues into the synagogue at Nazareth. At Jesus' baptism in the Jordan, the Spirit descended upon him in the form of a dove. After the baptism, the Spirit drove Jesus into the wilderness where he was tempted. Jesus' public ministry - at least in Luke's Gospel - is inaugurated when Jesus reads from the prophet Isaiah in the Nazareth synagogue:

Those who have experienced a conversion to Christ know that they enjoy a brief honeymoon period. Then the tempter sets in, zeroing in on one's weaknesses and seeking any angle to divide the bright-eyed new Christian from God. So it was with Jesus. Although Christ was sinless and in the process of authoring a new creation, the devil was pleased with the old creation, a culture without God.
