The reason the Fort Vermilion Public School Trustees have rebuffed the minister of education's LGBTQ policy is that, in sharp contrast to other public school trustees, they have let their parents know the details of Eggen's Guidelines for Best Practice.

These can be found online at https://education.alberta.ca/media/1626737/91383-attachment-1-guidelines-final.pdf

Eggen has instructed the schools that while Alberta Education requires documentation to confirm a student's legal name and birthdate, it does not require documented proof for a change of sex or gender.

A student's sex can be changed on the school records at the request of a student and this information can be withheld from parents.

Words like "father," "mother," are to be replaced by gender neutral words such as "parent" or "partner." Dress codes must be adapted to gender self-identification. A boy whom the school has identified as a girl, must be permitted to spend the night in the girls' accommodation on overnight trips, a ski trip for example, or longer trips within or outside the province.

Apparently, Premier Rachel Notley and her cabinet are determined to violate Canada's signed commitment to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 26: 1. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. 3. Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children.

They are also determined to trample the International Covenant of Civil and Political Rights, Article 18, "The states parties to the present covenant undertake to have respect for the liberty of parents to ensure the religious and moral education of their children in conformity with their own convictions."
