John Acheson (WCR, Dec 17) presents a very negative view of what Catholic education should provide. He wants our schools to instruct our students in all the social ills, even though experience tells us that this approach is rarely successful with young people.
I hope his views are not shared by the majority of the school board.
Instead, he should consider a positive approach to the development of Catholic students, for example, based on the Beatitudes. The Gospels are filled with positive teachings; John Acheson should develop his views accordingly.
