Listen to the pope before you vote

September 23, 2013

With municipal elections on Oct. 21, it is not premature to consider our choices.

Not all the information is in, but we can decide on the qualities we expect in our mayor and council. Study the candidates; read between the lines.

The same goes for school trustees. Too many eligible voters do not bother to vote for trustees. Do not assume that incumbents are the best choice.

Catholic voters have always been confronted by two trends: the doctrinaire exclusive traditionalists and the open-minded inclusive thinkers who are willing to reconsider traditions.

I suggest we pay close attention to what Pope Francis is saying and doing before we vote. May the Spirit bless us with enlightenment and love.
