Mulholland marks 50 years of religious life
SPECIAL TO THE WCR
SAINT JOHN, N.B. - Long active in the Edmonton Archdiocese, Sister Gertrude Mulholland recently celebrated her 50th anniversary of religious life near Saint John. She has been a pastoral assistant at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Sherwood Park for almost six years. The Sister of Charity of the Immaculate Conception (SCIC) also taught school in Wetaskiwin and served as a pastoral assistant and religious educator at Our Lady of the Angels Parish in Fort Saskatchewan from 1976-82. A spiritual director for about 35 years, she received her certification in 2002 from Providence Renewal Centre in Edmonton. Educated by the SCIC in her native Saint John, she entered the order in 1960 and went on to obtain a teaching certificate in Fredericton, as well as a bachelor's degree from the University of New Brunswick. Mulholland later earned a master's degree in religious education from Boston College and a master of arts in Catholic spirituality from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. She served in Digby, N.S., from 1982-98 as a pastoral associate and religious educator. Back in Alberta, she was a member of the Edmonton archdiocesan catechetical team from 1998-2004. She celebrated her anniversary Aug. 15 with four other sisters. |
