Maronite mural

This three-metre high by two-metre wide oil on canvas depicting Our Lady of Good Help holding the child Jesus hangs prominently behind the altar at Our Lady of Good Help Maronite Catholic Church, 9809-76 Ave. The painting, based on a print, features a Maronite procession from the cedars of Lebanon on the right and the mountains of Lebanon on the left. "The Maronite faith is known as the faith of the mountains; that's why we included the mountains," explains Father Michel Kassas. The crowns on both Mary and Jesus, as well as on the sceptre in Mary's right hand, contain real stones. Parishioner Artist Antoine Chelala painted the $20,000 mural, which was installed May 30. The Camil Nassar family sponsored the artwork.
