Parish, K of C bring together 110 golfers

LEDUC - Despite gloomy, cold weather, 110 golfers took part in the second annual charity golf tournament May 31 to raise funds for the construction of St. Joseph Seminary and Newman Theological College.

Eight priests and nine deacons were among those participating in the event sponsored by Nazareno Council of the Knights of Columbus and St. John the Evangelist Parish in Edmonton.

The event was dedicated to the clergy and aptly referred to as Padre Day@the Links.

The weather did not deter the golfers who played from 8:45 a.m. to about 2 p.m. at the Red Tail Landing Golf Course near the Edmonton International Airport. The golfing was followed by a steak buffet at the golf course's banquet hall.

The Wetaskiwin team of Russ Aney, George Ollenberger, Larry Kennedy and Mac Kennedy emerged as the champions of the tournament.

Spearheading the 21-member committee that organized the event were Father Jozef Wroblewski, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish, and Lito Reyes, past state deputy and former master of the fourth degree of the Knights of Columbus.
