Last Updated: Friday - 09/24/2010Week of November 3, 2008CCODP raising funds for HaitiBy Canadian Catholic NewsThe Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP) is seeking funds to help Haiti recover from a series of devastating hurricanes. “This is the worst impact from hurricanes that we’ve seen in decades,” Anne Catherine Kennedy, CCODP program officer for Brazil and Haiti, said in a telephone interview from Montreal. The series of storms in August and September have heavily damaged what little infrastructure Haiti had and wiped out 60 to 80 per cent of its agriculture, she said. The violent storms have left 700 dead and 800,000 in need of emergency assistance. CCODP, founded by Canada’s Catholic bishops 40 years ago as their development arm in the Global South, is seeking further donations for Haiti. More information is available at www.devp.org. |
