Local coverage is lifeblood of the WCR

WCR Logo

Local and national Church news is the lifeblood of the Western Catholic Reporter. The vast majority of the WCR is written by Canadian writers and most of that is written right here in Alberta.

We strive to keep our readers up to date on the Catholic Church in this part of the world. So we provide as detailed news and commentary as possible on what’s happening in the Edmonton Archdiocese and across Canada. We do it with resources that are dwarfed by those available to the mainstream media.

In July, for example, we pushed ourselves to the limit with full coverage of two landmark events that took place at the same time – the ordination of the first class of deacons for the Edmonton Archdiocese and the Tekakwitha Conference of aboriginal Catholics from across North America. The Edmonton gathering was the first time the Tekakwitha Conference had ever been held in Canada.

Still, if you see more local events where coverage is needed, let us know. We can’t always send a reporter. But we welcome your articles and photos.

Local coverage is the lifeblood of the WCR. And you can help us to provide that life.
