L'Arche booklet aids preparation for death
By WHO Special to the WCR Calgary
L'Arche Calgary has prepared a 12-page booklet for Albertans called Celebrating Life: Preparing for our Final Journey. With its focus on personal and spiritual preparation for our final act on earth: dying, it is a complement to material dealing with wills, personal directives, etc.
After 34 years in this city, L'Arche Calgary's members with developmental disabilities are aging.
To support their changing and additional needs, L'Arche Calgary developed an Aging in Place program of which Celebrating Life is a part. The booklet is also a resource for the community at large.
Celebrating Life was originally published by L'Arche Ottawa but was adapted by L'Arche Calgary.
It was inspired by the spirituality of L'Arche founder Jean Vanier, the writings of Henri Nouwen, who had a special relationship with L'Arche, and the experiences of L'Arche community members.
To request free copies of Celebrating Life contact L'Arche Calgary by phone at (403) 571-0155. An electronic version is also available online at www.larchecalgary.org.
