Nazareno Knights has ambitious plans for Squires, Squirettes
By ECEL SOSA Special to the WCR Edmonton
The Knights of Columbus Nazareno Council 12904 has strengthened its focus on the youth.
Through the coordination of youth director Jojo Duenas, the council sponsored the initiation of seven squires into the Nazareno Columbian Squires Circle No. 4698 and 13 squirettes into the Sorority of the Sisters of Mary - St. Rose Circle at Annunciation Church.
The St. Rose Circle Columbian Squirettes is currently the only active Squirettes circle in Alberta.
On Sept. 28, the officers of the two Knights of Columbus Nazareno Council 12904 youth organizations were installed at the St. Joseph's Auxiliary Hospital Chapel.
Chancellor Rudy Arcilla and chief counsellor Leo Sosa conducted the installation of officers for the Columbian Squires while Grand Knight Ferdie Maingat and chief counsellor Mary Ann Sosa officiated the installation of officers of the Columbian Squirettes.
The installation was followed by an inspirational talk by Father Ted Wesolowski, the Nazareno Council's chaplain. Wesolowski commended the squires and squirettes for committing themselves to the spiritual and charitable goals of the Knights of Columbus.
Activities planned for the squires and squirettes include monthly Eucharistic Adoration, volunteer work at the Edmonton General Hospital, Halloween food bank drive, assisting at the Nazareno Council's four Philippine Masses, and Christmas carolling to fundraise for children in need.
