Archbishop celebrates 50th

Archbishop Arthé cuts a cake celebrating his 50 years as a priest

Archbishop Arthé Guimond, former spiritual leader of the Grouard-McLennan Archdiocese, celebrated his 50th anniversary as a priest June 24 at Foyer Lacombe in St. Albert. Some 50 family and friends attended the event honouring the 76-year-old, including his brother, Father Ray Guimond, pastor of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Wainwright.

The archbishop celebrated Mass along with five priests who worked with him in the archdiocese. A reception at Star of the North Centre followed, highlighted by Guimond singing some of his favourite songs in French and Italian.

Guimond was ordained a priest June 23, 1957 in St. John the Baptist Cathedral in McLennan. He was archbishop of Grouard-McLennan from 2000 to 2005.
