Wainwright school raises $10,000
By WCR Staff Wainwright
Advent 2006 was a busy time of year for some 400 students at Blessed Sacrament (K-12) School in Wainwright.
"Every year we do an Advent project and the Rainbow of Hope brought the idea of doing something for Father Shay Cullen," said Tim Pochylko, principal of Blessed Sacrament.
As a symbol of awareness and support for children in the Philippines, students cut out hundreds of paper dolls that were purchased with a voluntary donation.
Some were bought for a quarter, while others received significant amounts from members of Blessed Sacrament Parish and others in the community.
Between the school and parish, about $10,000 was raised.
Pochylko is proud of the effort shown by the students.
"This is about the kids and individuals in the parish who really make it happen," he said.
"Without the understanding and support of the students, staff and parish, none of this would have happened. It worked because they believed in the project."
