Notre Dame sisters choose new leadership team

Special to the WCR
Cornwall, Ont.

Sister Josephine Badali has been elected leader of the Congregation of Notre Dame for the next five years.

Badali will be joined on the CND general leadership team by Sisters Monique Courchesne, Andr‚e D‚ry, Anne Leonard, Sheila Sullivan and Donna Rose (ex-officio).

The team will assume its mandate as of Nov. 15.

The congregation's Aug. 2 to 16 general chapter was preceded by a five-day general forum Visitation Beyond Borders.

Some of the topics explored in small reflection groups included: Marguerite Bourgeoys and the Spirituality of Visitation-Pentecost, Young People and Vocations (new members), Identity and Unity in Diversity, the Challenges of the Church and Women in the Church, Leadership, Community Life, the Mission of the CND for Sisters and Associates, Ecological Justice and Alliances Beyond Our Borders.

The event flowed from the experience of the general chapter of 2001 where a strong desire was voiced for open and honest conversation on topics which carry challenges for the future of the CND.

Three hundred and fifty sisters and associates from eight countries on four continents took part in the forum - Canada, the United States, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Cameroon, Japan and France.

The Congregation de Notre-Dame is a vibrant international religious community. Drawing on its longstanding dedication to education, the congregation is pursuing, in various ways, its mission towards the transformation of society for a more just and human world.
