Picture Mary in your heart

By BILL GLEN

We carry pictures of our family in our wallets so we can remember them and show them, proudly. But what is the picture of Mary we have in our hearts?

Father Henry Rosenbaum, provincial delegate of the Pallotine Fathers in Canada, posed the question to the more than 2,000 people who gathered for the Skaro pilgrimage Aug. 14 marking the feast of the Assumption.

He said Mary is known by many references, but by a single meaning. She is the example of what it means to be a true Christian.

"We are here today to celebrate the birthday of Our Lady to heaven. She was a humble handmaid of the Lord," Rosenbaum said during his homily.

"Mary is known by many names such as Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of Good Counsel or Our Lady of the Angels. What does she have to say to us today?"

When the Pallotine Fathers were founded by St. Vincent Pallotti in 1835, he promoted the idea of Mary, Queen of Apostles because he wanted to see not only the priest but the laity as apostles of the Church and in the world, Rosenbaum said.

"The rabbis in the Old Testament often said when the ark was lost, it will return when the Messiah comes to save his people. Rightfully we see Mary, who brought us Christ our Saviour, called the Ark of the Covenant."

We can see as devotees of Mary, that Christ was the greatest one. He loved his mother, Rosenbaum said.
