Jesus lawn signs a hit

The message is popping up everywhere.

From Fort McMurray to Fort Saskatchewan and into the province of Saskatchewan itself, the Knights of Columbus' Christ is Christmas lawn signs are a hit.

"The signs are selling very well," said Andrew Chan. "It's better than I expected."

Chan was working for a political candidate during the last election when he thought of the idea of creating the lawn signs for Jesus. He presented the idea to his council, Msgr. Joseph Malone Council 13312 at St. Joseph's Basilica, which decided to run with the idea.

"Our original run of 750 signs sold out quickly. We are now printing 500 more," Chan said.

Local distributors Shine FM, Universal Church Supplies and Blessings Church Supplies are having a hard time keeping the signs in stock. Chan said his council is doing everything it can to meet the demand.

"I brought 25 signs over to Universal and two days later, they were sold out," he said.

The signs come with a metal stand to be pushed into lawns. They can also be displayed from inside a home through a window.

A knight from Saskatchewan bought a few during a recent visit and said he would pass the word along to his council.

Chan predicts sales of the $10 signs could reach 1,500 to 2,000.

"We haven't heard from the Calgary knights yet. Who knows?" Chan said.

A portion of the proceeds will go towards providing financial assistance for three seminarians who belong to the council.
