Three Hills CWL marks 80 years
Special to the WCR Three Hills
St. Joseph's Parish Catholic Women's League celebrated its 80th anniversary here Oct. 14
The league began its journey here with a meeting Sept. 20, 1925 with 15 women present.
Over the years, the ladies hosted turkey dinners, paid all the bills for the church and made many charitable donations.
During the Second World War, St. Joseph's CWL made "sailor ditty bags" at a cost of $3. The bags contained heavy socks, 12 packages of candy and gum, two packages of biscuits, one tin dessert preparation, one tin shoe polish, two packages soup mix and six packages of oxo cubes.
The council has hosted the inter-church World Day of Prayer several times.
The CWL has organized catechism classes and every year gives gifts for First Communion, Confirmation and graduation.
Members also gather weekly to pray the rosary.
