Parish statue dedicated to memory of the unborn

Blessing

Edmonton

Following the 11 a.m. Mass on May 22, Father Victor Perron of St. Andrew's Parish dedicated and blessed a bronze statue of Our Lady and Child to the memory of the hundreds of thousands of unborn children sacrificed through abortion.

The memorial, sponsored by Knights of Columbus Edmonton Council 1184, Our Lady of Fatima Council 4530 and St. Joseph Assembly 0005, St. Andrew's Parish Council, St. Andrew's CWL, St. Andrew's Youth Group, Jules and Carol Lacoursiere, and Angel's Memorials is located in front of St. Andrew's Church, 12810-111 Ave., to highlight our pro-life position in the community.

Lyle Lavender a member of Our Lady of Fatima Council, St. Joseph's Assembly and St. Andrew's Parish, said the concept of the memorial and design and construction took place over the past year.

As a member of St. Andrew's parish council he approached the various Knights of Columbus groups active in St. Andrew's area with a request to assist in funding a permanent memorial to the unborn to not only provide a visual sign of our position on the sanctity of life but at the same time to enhance the entrance to the Church.

Perron, pastor of St. Andrew's Parish, said the memorial provides parishioners and visitors with an opportunity to pause and remember the thousands of unborn that have been sacrificed over the past few years that abortion has been allowed to flourish in our society.

We must all pray and do whatever we can to support those groups who are leading the fight to halt the continuous deterioration in morals in our society today, he said.
