Sr. Keylor named provincial

Sisters of Providence announce new procincial council

Sister Gloria Keylor, general superior of her order for 10 years, has agreed to serve another three-year term as provincial superior of the Western Canadian Holy Angels Province of the Sisters of Providence.

The sisters held a ceremony in the chapel at Providence Centre June 30 to welcome Keylor and the new council for the province.

Other council members are Sister Mary Lei Gordon, provincial treasurer and councillor; Sister Toyleen Fook, vocation director and councillor; and Sister Rita Schiller, councillor. The council members were elected at the chapter of discernment of leadership in February.

Keylor, has been a sister for 40 years. A teacher by profession, she has used her ability to communicate in English, French and Spanish to further the international scope of the congregation. She is dedicated to supporting the needs of the sisters and their missions in western Canada.

Sister Gloria returned to the province three years ago from Montreal where she was general superior of the congregation from August 1992 to July 2002. Prior to this, she was provincial superior and councillor in Holy Angels Province from 1982 to 1992.

Sister Mary Lei Gordon was re-elected to a second term on the provincial council where she continues in her role as provincial treasurer.

Sister Toyleen Fook has been vocation director for Holy Angels Province for the past six years and was elected to her first term on the provincial council.

Sister Rita Schiller worked for many years in the health ministry after her profession 52 years ago. She spent three years in Argentina and upon her return began her ministry helping refugees from South America adjust to the Canadian culture. Sister Rita's ministry has involved pastoral care in Calgary and Edmonton. This is her first term on provincial council.

The international community of the Sisters of Providence serves in nine countries around the world.
