Ukrainian groups take on Heritage DaysHeritage Days 2003, held on the August long weekend, was full of uncertainties. Normally 52 pavilions participate in this extraordinary event. This year 39 pavilions stuck with it through the uncertainties of the new ticket system, providing a superb festival for about 350,000 people over the three days. The Ukrainian pavilion was not immune to this unsure situation. Due to growing speculation of an unstable event, many of the usual supporters from the Ukrainian religious, ethnic and dance community did not participate, leaving the pavilion in a vulnerable situation. In early June three Catholic organizations, rallied together to attempt to save this situation. The three groups involved were St. Sophia Ukrainian Catholic Parish from Sherwood Park, the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood and youth from the Catholic Eparchy in Edmonton.

Evangelization groups gather
Six different groups involved in Catholic evangelization came to Radway recently to exchange ideas and plans. "All of us are involved in bringing people to a relationship with Jesus Christ," said Jeff Lockert, president of Catholic Christian Outreach (CCO), a Catholic ministry reaching out to students on university campuses across Canada. "While each group retains its autonomy, there is benefit to the entire Body of Christ by sharing what each of us is doing." Other groups involved at the meeting included John Paul II Bible School, NET Canada, Life-Vision Communications, the Live-In and Get-to-Know-Jesus Retreats, and Face-to-Face Ministry, a youth retreat movement based in Saskatchewan. The parties agreed to meet again in mid-November. |
