Priests, religious honoured by K of C

Edmonton

Edmonton Archbishop Thomas Collins, together with 50 Catholic and Ukrainian priests and other members of the religious, were honoured by the Knights of Columbus, Edmonton Chapter, at the 23rd annual Padre Night held at St. Basil's Cultural Centre Nov. 10.

Grand Knight Vince Reyes of Nazareno Council 12904 said the Knights of Columbus is promoting vocations to the priesthood in honour of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Father Michael McGivney, founder of the Knights.

In his keynote address, Collins declared that aside from the many known symbols of the Catholic faith such as the cross, heart and charity, "the ladder is a great symbol of our faith."

He explained that one end of the ladder must be planted in everyone's life, must be deeply rooted and that the end of the ladder reaches to heaven. He encouraged the Knights of Columbus to look around and to see people who are suffering, who are in need and to continue service to others.

He urged everyone to spend time in adoration to the Lord every day and meditate upon the Gospel of the Lord - which will touch us where we are and will lead us to the unseen world where we are going to be. He emphasized that everyone must practice "adoration" and "action" in our daily lives.

The Nazareno Council also presented gifts to all the priests, sisters and other members of the religious community present. This was the first time that such gift giving was ever done at Padre Night in Edmonton.
