Share Lent raised $9.2M
By ART BABYCH Canadian Catholic News Cornwall, Ont.
The mission of the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace is as relevant today as it was when the Canadian bishops founded the organization 35 years ago, say the two bishop representatives on the CCODP national council.
Bishops Martin Currie and Jean-Guy Hamelin told the Canadian bishops assembly Oct. 18 that thanks to the support of the CCCB and Canadian Catholics, CCODP "continues its vital action of solidarity with the poor and education for justice."
The organization raised $9.2 million during last year's Share Lent, CCODP's major outreach campaign, an increase of almost a million dollars.
"But most importantly," said Currie, "was that there was $2 million given in emergency aid to the Afghanistan campaign."
