Last Updated: Friday - 09/24/2010Week of September 30, 2002Parishes pay for your WCR subscriptionCatholics in the Edmonton Archdiocese are entitled to receive a "free" subscription to the Western Catholic Reporter. If you don't now receive that subscription, you can receive either by registering with your parish and asking for the WCR or by phoning the WCR at (780) 465-8030. Your request will not cost your parish anything. Parishes are assessed five per cent of their Sunday collections to pay for the WCR. That assessment is not affected by the number of parishioners who receive the newspaper. The assessment program is also unique in Canada and does place a burden on parishes. So, we encourage you to donate to your parish to the best of your ability. The assessment program makes up more than 60 per cent of our revenue and so it is certainly to the advantage of the WCR to have parishes in a financially healthy position. Many readers also like to contribute directly to the WCR. An envelope is included with this issue of the WCR to enable you to make a donation if you so choose. |
