Secular Oblates celebrate 50th Anniversary
Special to the WCR Sherbrooke, Que.
The secular institute of the Oblate Missionaries celebrated the 50th anniversary of its foundation on July 6.
Some readers will remember the time when the Oblates were more visible in Alberta.
In the 1960s, they were in charge of kindergartens and of a nursing home. They taught nursing and catechism, were involved in the foundation of Annunciation and St. Thomas d'Aquin parishes in Edmonton, and offered a formal service in vocation discernment.
Today, without their uniform (grey skirt and navy blue blazer), they are fully integrated into society and thus contribute to its transformation from within in the manner of a leaven.
