Special to the WCR New Haven, Conn.
Alberta-Northwest Territories Knights of Columbus volunteered nearly one million volunteer hours for various charities last year, the Catholic men's organization reported.
The Alberta Knights also raised and donated $1.9 million to charity, a new record.
Knights at all levels of the organization in 2001 reported raising and donating to charities more than $192 million. They also volunteered an all-time high of 58.9 million hours of service.
The Alberta-NWT Knights also gave another 101,000 hours in service to sick or disabled members and their families and made 57,718 visits to the sick or bereaved. About 5,200 Knights were blood donors.
"The Knights of Columbus is a tremendous powerhouse of volunteerism," said State Deputy Leo Klein. "Every day we find new ways to be of service to those in need."
