St. Edmund's raises funds for cancer research
Special to the WCR Edmonton
Students from St. Edmund Junior High School have raised$3,200 for cancer research by riding stationary bicycles.
The students were inspired by the Cops for Cancer project at West Edmonton Mall that aims to raise $120,000 for cancer research through a virtual bicycle trip across Canada.
Since Feb. 17, the students have been assigned to ride stationary bikes in the school's fitness centre for 15 minutes each. The students earlier collected pledges based on the number of kilometres they could ride during the 15 minutes.
The fundraising effort began after teacher Monique Parrotta invited organizers of the police project to speak to the students about their efforts and the students were challenged to launch a similar project.
