'That They May Have Life'
WESTERN CATHOLIC REPORTER
EDMONTON — The motto of the new bishop of St. Paul is Ut Vitam Habeant, "That They May Have Life." Bishop Luc Bouchard took that motto from John 10:10 in Jesus' discourse on the Good Shepherd. Jesus came to share God's love with us so that all may have life, the bishop said. Bouchard's coat of arms shows the Bible in the upper left corner, representing the Word of God which contains the truth of salvation. The Word of God leads to the sheaf of wheat in the upper right corner, symbolizing the sacraments, especially the Eucharist. The wheat also symbolizes the largely rural Diocese of St. Paul. In the lower left corner is the staff representing the Good Shepherd who leads his people. In the lower right corner is the anchor, a sign of hope, which urges the faithful on, trusting in God's Word and the sacraments in order to follow Jesus, the Good Shepherd. |
