Meander River welcomes cross
KARLA VALENCIA
SPECIAL TO THE WCR MEANDER RIVER — The small northern community of Meander River had the honour of welcoming the World Youth Day cross to Alberta Nov. 5. About 130 students and community members gathered in the gym of Upper Hay River School in this Dene community of 400 people located 70 km north of High Level. Each person knelt and brought their prayers before the cross as the group prayed and sang. Respect for the cross was evident as people went up and kissed it with reverence. The cross was slated to travel through the Grouard-McLennan Archdiocese in northwestern Alberta Nov. 5-9 before moving on to the St. Paul Diocese, Nov. 9-13. |
