Ward 2 — North-Central Edmonton

Jim Urlacher

I have served on the Catholic school board in the past and I spent 35 years as a principal and a teacher with Edmonton Catholic Schools.

I have lived in Ward 2 for the past 40 years and I am actively involved in the community as the chairperson of the St. Edmund Parish Council and as a member of the Knights of Columbus.

I believe parents should have a strong voice in the education of their children and that they need effective and honest representation on the school board. The Catholic community in our city has been blessed with an excellent, faith-filled, school system.

We have a number of programs in place to meet the needs of our students, but we can and must do more.

As a trustee, I will work to ensure that:

  • Our Catholicity is promoted and celebrated within our school system and faith community.
  • Class sizes are kept to reasonable levels.
  • Diversity in programming is continued and expanded to meet the needs of all students.
  • The school board continues to lobby the government for increased funding for existing programs and for construction of a new high school in northwest Edmonton.
  • Effective use of existing facilities becomes a priority and that consultation with parents and school councils takes place in an honest and straightforward manner.
  • The concerns of parents in the Edmonton Catholic School District are given voice in a timely and effective manner.
