Ward 2 — North-Central Edmonton

As a Ward 2 trustee candidate, I am seeking to serve on the Edmonton Catholic school board in the upcoming election on Oct. 15.

My husband Steve and I have two school age children attending Catholic schools in north Edmonton's Ward 2. I am a small business owner and have been an active volunteer in the Edmonton community for over 10 years.

I understand the importance of the role of the trustee in light of the changes made to Alberta's education system since 1993. I understand that trustees are representatives who you elect to defend and advocate your children's educational needs and interests within the Catholic school board.

Over the past year, I have successfully assisted other parents concerned about threats to the Catholic schools in our communities.

In April of this year, when St. Philip and St. Anne elementary schools faced the threat of being cut back into offering only Grades 3 to 6 (St. Philip) and kindergarten to Grade 2 (St. Anne), I worked as a member of a parent team to prepare and make a presentation to Edmonton Catholic Schools.

The work of the parent team resulted in both schools continuing to offer kindergarten to Grade 6 for the 2001-02 school year.

My involvement in our school community over the last several years ensure that I am well informed of the current and evolving issues in education which challenge our school system.

My commitment to Ward 2 is to be a strong voice in representing and defending your family's Catholic educational needs and interest within Edmonton Catholic Schools. I am proud of our community and would like to ensure that we maintain and continuously improve the school system to which we send our children every day.
