WCR again honoured for overall excellenceThe Western Catholic Reporter has again been named Canada's top regional Church newspaper. The WCR won the award from the Canadian Church Press for general excellence among regional newspapers for the third time in four years. The WCR has also won either the first or second place award in the general excellence category six times in the seven years it has entered the competition. This year the judges said the WCR "does an excellent job of covering all bases . . . (is) a treat to read, . . . a good mix, . . . well-edited." An honourable mention in the category went to the The Anglican, the newspaper of the Anglican Diocese of Toronto. The WCR also received an honourable mention for the layout and design of an entire issue. The judges described the WCR's Aug. 28 issue, which featured coverage of World Youth Day in Rome, as "a very lively paper that uses colour well and is consistent in its design from front to back."
