Calgary to host CWL conventionSPECIAL TO THE WCR
CALGARY — More than 1,000 delegates are expected in Calgary this summer when the city hosts the national convention of the Catholic Women's League of Canada. Women from across Canada will gather to celebrate The Open Door, the theme of the convention. The theme builds on Jesus' statement, "I am the door. Whomever enters through me will be saved." As National President Vivian Bosch writes: "The 'Open Door' invites us to a new discovery which welcomes us on a journey with Jesus, crossing over borders and taking advantage of the opening in the horizon ahead." Hosting councils from across the Calgary Diocese will throw open their own doors in welcome, and there will be plenty of western hospitality throughout the business sessions, resolutions dialogues, workshops and liturgies. As well as tours of Calgary and Banff, and events at Spruce Meadows Equestrian Centre and Canada Olympic Park, the convention will feature the Alberta-grown talents of David Bedard, Mark Mallet, and the Drumheller Passion Play Choir. A special invitation will be extended to the youth of the diocese to attend the free Mark Mallet concert, which will be held Tuesday, Aug. 14. The convention takes place Aug. 11-15 at the Coast Plaza Hotel, with Masses at various local churches. Further details, including registration details, are available in The Canadian League magazine, on the CWL national website (www.cwl.ca), or from local CWL parish councils. |
