Annual Collection set for Priests' Retirement FundDear Friends in Christ:Pope John Paul II uses the image of the shepherd and the flock to indicate the kind of service and dedication required of our priests. "The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep" (John 10:11). Our priests have dedicated their lives to Christ in the service of the people of this archdiocese. It is fitting, therefore, that those who have been blessed by their ministry and generosity would respond with gratitude by offering support at the time of their retirement or when they are no longer able to remain actively involved in ministry. To this effect, the archdiocese has established a clergy pension fund for retired and disabled priests. This fund bears witness to this support. Good Shepherd Sunday is an opportune day to acknowledge the incredible work these priests have done and indeed are still doing in our midst, bringing the good news of Jesus through their teachings and celebration of the sacraments. I invite you to show them your appreciation by generously giving to the Priests' Retirement Fund on this the first annual archdiocesan collection. Be assured of their continued prayers for your needs as you so kindly respond to provide for theirs. May Our Lord bless you always. Yours in Christ,
