Priests' appointments
Archbishop Thomas Collins announces the following appointments of priests in the Archdiocese of Edmonton
Effective May 1
- Father Isagani Avinante, current pastor of Holy Cross Parish, Grande Cache, and attached mission, is granted a sabbatical until Dec. 31.
- Father Ferdinand Sablan, becomes temporary administrator of Holy Cross Parish, Grande Cache, and attached mission.
Effective June 5
- Newly ordained, Father Jan Sobkowicz, becomes associate pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Red Deer.
Effective June 23
- Spiritan Father Robert Colburn, current pastor of St. Theresa Parish, Edmonton, is assigned a new ministry by his religious community.
Effective July 11
- Father Leonard Cadieux, current rector of St. Joseph Basilica, becomes pastor of St. Alphonsus Parish, Edmonton.
- Father Martin Carroll, current pastor of St. Alphonsus Parish, Edmonton, becomes pastor of St. Theresa Parish, Edmonton.
- Father Sylvain Casavant, current archdiocesan vocation director, is pursuing a calling with the Society of Saint Sulpice and will enter the formation program in Oka, Que.
- Basilian Father John Gallagher, becomes pastor of the parishes of St. Anthony and St. Agnes, Edmonton.
- Father Leonard Gartner, current pastor of Good Shepherd Parish, Edmonton, becomes rector of St. Joseph Basilica.
- Father Clement Gauthier, current pastor of St. Andrew Parish, Edmonton, becomes pastor of Assumption Parish, Edmonton.
- Father John Hesse, returns from a two-year term as pastor of Our Lady of Peace Parish, Peace River, to become pastor of Holy Family Parish, St. Albert.
- Father Stephen Hero, current associate pastor of St. Theresa Parish, Edmonton, becomes associate pastor of Holy Family Parish, St. Albert, in addition to his duties as the new archdiocesan vocation director.
- Father Micheal Laporte, current pastor in Camrose and Bashaw, becomes pastor of St. Vital Parish, Beaumont.
- Father A.J. MacKenzie, current pastor of Assumption Parish, Edmonton, retires from parish ministry.
- Father Lorenz Maier, current associate pastor of St. Joseph Basilica, becomes pastor of St. Boniface Parish, Edmonton.
- Father Mercurio Montenegro becomes associate pastor of St. Theresa Parish, Edmonton, until Dec. 31.
- Pallotine Father George Neumann, current pastor of St. Boniface Parish, Edmonton, becomes pastor of Good Shepherd Parish, Edmonton.
- Father Vic Perron, current pastor in Wainwright and Provost, becomes pastor of St. Andrew Parish, Edmonton.
- Father Karl Raab, current pastor of Holy Family Parish, St. Albert, retires from parish ministry.
- Father Vernon Regis becomes associate pastor of St. Joseph Basilica.
- Father Nestor Watin, current associate pastor of St. Francis Xavier Parish, Camrose, and Immaculate Parish, Bashaw, becomes administrator of these parishes.
- Father Jozef Wroblewski, associate pastor in Fort Saskatchewan, and attached parishes, becomes pastor of Blessed Sacrament Parish, Wainwright, and St. Mary's Parish, Provost.
Effective July 31
- Father Ferdinand Sablan becomes temporary administrator of St. Martin of Tours Parish, Vegreville, and attached parishes of St. Gregory, Holden, and Holy Heart of Mary, Viking.
Effective August 5
- Piarist Father Andrew Rybak, current pastor in Vegreville, and the attached parishes in Holden and Viking, becomes pastor of Holy Cross Parish, Grande Cache, and attached mission.
Effective September 1
- Father Donald Stein, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Red Deer, is granted a mini-sabbatical until Dec. 31. Father Jan Sobkowicz will look after pastoral needs of the parish during that time.
Effective January 1, 2002
- Father Isagani Avinante, returning from a sabbatical leave, becomes pastor of St. Martin of Tours Parish, Vegreville, and attached parishes in Holden and Viking.
- Father Jan Sobkowicz of Sacred Heart Parish, Red Deer, becomes associate pastor of St. Theresa Parish, Edmonton.
