Prince George Diocese linked to Vancouver

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C.— The Diocese of Prince George celebrated its change in canonical status at the April 2 Chrism Mass held at Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Since its inception, the Prince George Diocese has been a missionary diocese under the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and a suffragan of Grouard-McLennan.

A new decree brings the diocese under the common law of the Church and links it with the metropolitan see of Vancouver.

Vancouver Archbishop Adam Exner declared the occasion "an historical moment" in the life of the diocese. All other dioceses in B.C. are also suffragans of Vancouver.
