Concert funds training for spiritual directors
Special to the WCR Edmonton
The new Spiritual Direction Formation Program received a financial boost at the Nov. 24 fundraiser musical concert at Providence Renewal Centre.
This annual musical fundraiser financially supports a program to train local people to become spiritual directors.
The two-year, part-time program began Aug. 13 and the first group of students will complete their formation by August 2002.
Previously, those preparing to be spiritual directors had to travel to Vancouver or Saskatoon for their formation.
At the fundraiser, Leo Connelly, from St. Joseph's Assembly of the Knights of Columbus, presented Providence Renewal Centre board member Bill Lerner with a cheque for $5,000.
This money will go toward the expenses of operating the formation program.
Providence Renewal Centre has served the Edmonton area for more than 20 years, offering sacred space for retreats, and meetings as well as over 90 programs each year that address the needs of individuals in various phases of life.
Ten Edmonton musical artists contributed their time and talent to the delight of more than 300 guests at the fundraiser.
A crowd favourite, Hong Yan Powell, back for her second year, enchanted the crowd with a Chinese folk song in keeping with the event's theme, Mosaic of Music, Bringing the World Together.
