The Western Catholic Reporter has again been recognized as one of Canada's top regional Church newspapers.
The WCR received the runner-up award for the top regional newspaper from the Canadian Church Press at its recent annual meeting in Toronto. First prize went to The Anglican, the newspaper of the Toronto Anglican Diocese. It's the fifth time in the six years that the WCR has entered the annual awards contest that it has won the first prize or an honourable mention for general excellence among regional newspapers. The judges this year described the WCR as having "a flavour that is refreshingly different from the ultra-respectful and totally predictable tone of many religious newspapers." "The paper sticks close to its readership with as much local content as possible, as well as treating issues of theology and Church politics. "There is a sense that editors, writers and production team bring a high level of personal interest and journalistic flair to their work." The general excellence award for national Church newspapers went to The Anglican Journal. |
