Sr. Edith Steffes served as a teacher

Special to the WCR
Edmonton

Sister Edith Steffes, formerly known as Sister Winifred Marie, died May 12 at the palliative care centre of the Edmonton General Hospital.

A funeral service for Steffes, a Filles de Jesus, was held May 15 at St. Thomas d'Aquin Church. She was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Sister Edith had been a teacher in Canada, California and the West Indies. She was loved by her pupils for her devotedness, sense of humour and justice.

Her sisters saw her as a woman of peace and serenity, a person of deep faith, wisdom and courage. Never a complaint fell from her lips during a long and painful struggle against cancer.

Edith touched others by her positive outlook on life, her gentleness and her beautiful smile.
