The $27-million man
By WCR Staff
That's how much Knights of Columbus insurance the Calgary agent issued last year - the most of any agent in the order. And though his boss, Marc Bouchard of Red Deer, isn't able to say it definitely, he thinks that may be the most any K of C insurance agent has ever sold in one year.
Lewchuk, though, is not one to pat himself on the back. "I'm just out there working with members and meeting their needs," he says.
A knight for nine years and parish council chair for St. Stephen's Ukrainian Catholic Parish, he was encouraged to come from private industry to work as a K of C insurance agent four years ago.
Lewchuk says his approach is simply to help the members understand the Knights and to develop a financial plan that will meet their and their families' needs.
"I tend perhaps to see fewer people, but to spend longer with them."
He tells members that any profits from the K of C insurance program go back into the order, providing support for priests, help for orphans, support for projects at the Vatican and other programs.
And he takes seriously James 1:27 - that pure religion is "to care for orphans and widows in their distress."
The fulfillment he gets comes from "knowing I've assisted a family to survive financially if the primary breadwinner has a premature death."
For the Columbian year that will end June 30, Lewchuk said he is behind his blistering pace of last year. "But I'm certainly meeting the goals I set for myself."
