Last Updated: Friday - 09/24/2010Week of May 15, 2000Convention chairman sends greetings to K of C families
Dear Knights of Columbus families:I have the privilege of extending a warm and fraternal welcome to all of you for coming to participate in this 90th annual state convention for the Alberta-Northwest Territories jurisdiction being held here in Edmonton. It is a joyous privilege because this year we are celebrating 2,000 years of Christ with all Christians throughout the world, but most importantly with our Holy Father who has declared this a Great Jubilee Year 2000. This year we are asked to reach out to our neighbour and forgive. Who best to do this than the Knights of Columbus? Who works quietly in the background providing financial relief and countless hours of volunteer time to help those least able to help themselves? Who responds with care and compassion when young lives are ended before they have a chance to live? Who finds a way to remind everyone that Christmas really does belong to Christ? Who responds to those bereaving for someone who has been called home? Who provides the means to fraternal brothers to protect their families should the brother become disabled or be called home?
Yes dear families, you are those who do all these things as part of your contribution to the works of the Knights of Columbus.
So come, join in work and play, enjoy yourself at this convention planned for your benefit. Listen to one another, compare notes, contribute your thoughts in discussion, make it the best one ever for you, then return and share all these new thoughts, ideas and enthusiasm with those in your own council. You will note that your convention begins with Mass and ends with a memorial Mass and that shows that we are in solidarity with our brother Jesus through mother Mary. Your committee has worked hard to ensure all events will run smoothly, smile with us when they don't and enjoy when they do. Fraternally
