Youth 2000 group changes its name

It will be the same celebration, but with a new name. Gone is what has been known as the Youth 2000 event. In its place is Burning Bush: Prayer Festival.

The weekend-long event, which has been held in the city for the past five years will follow the customary Youth 2000 agenda of prayer, worship, Eucharistic Adoration, songs and spiritual talks.

The local Youth 2000 group will carry on the event, but without the assistance of the North American Youth 2000 coordinator, who is based out of Dallas, Texas.

The goal for the Burning Bush crew is to become the coordinating team for the event throughout the province and possibly Western Canada.

Jacquie Schoenberger, who attended last year's event, suggested the name Burning Bush.

The name is also closely related to the large triangular stand filled with lit candles, which has become a familiar centrepiece of the event, particularly during Eucharistic Adoration, said Father Sylvain Casavant. Casavant has been a regular speaker at the Youth 2000 events.

Other suggested names for the event included The Friends of Jesus; Jesus, Mary, Joseph Encounter; Light the Fire; and Taste the Truth, Discover Your Lifesaver.
