From mother to sister
Special to the WCR Swift Current, Sask.
Sister Leona (Klein) Delorme pronounced perpetual vows Nov. 21, the feast of Christ the King, in the chapel of St. Angela Merici residence in Saskatoon.
Delorme grew up on a farm near Thorsby, Alta., one of 12 children. She entered the Ursulines of Jesus at the age of 15, but left after two and one-half years. She says that she entered for the wrong reasons at that time.
Eventually she married and had three sons. After a difficult marriage of 17 years, she became a single parent and a career woman.
But the call to a religious life never left her. When the children left home she felt she could pursue the call. At the age of 52 she entered the Ursulines of Prelate.
When questioned about the adjustment to religious life as a middle-aged person, Sister Leona replied, "It's not a big change. I used to live as part of a family; now I live as part of a community. As a mother you give of yourself and as a sister you give of yourself."
Sister Leona presently ministers in Swift Current as a pastoral care worker and is involved in other parish activities.
