Students reflect on Christmas
By CLAUDIA GONZALEZ Special to the WCR Edmonton
Christmas is definitely in the air and all around people can't wait until it gets here. While we might be tempted to think about Christmas in the commercialized way, students seem to appreciate the simpler things about this holiday.
Here is what some students at Edmonton high schools think is the best about Christmas.
Rachel Igarta:
"What I like about Christmas is that I get to spend time with my family members and because it represents a new beginning because of the New Year. I really like to see the happiness in kids' faces; it's very festive. I also like Christmas because it's my birthday."
Ryan Lee:
"What I like about Christmas is that every year we go to Jasper Park Lodge. We go to Jasper, stay in our little cabin, and eat lots of good food. Later we sing carols, go on sleigh rides, and go skating on the lake. It's really fun. One year though my grandma died, so we didn't go."
Chantale Perreault:
"I like Christmas lights and decorations. They're unique to Christmas."
Wendy Gonzalez:
"I really enjoy putting up the Christmas tree and decorating it. Plus, there's just something in the air, it's hard to explain. The whole atmosphere just changes, and that's great."
Kim Wrista:
"What I like about Christmas is the fact that all my family gets together. Every year we go to midnight Mass, and when we return we open one gift. Then we go to bed and in the morning we open all of the other presents."
Richard Pua:
"What I actually like about Christmas is the food and presents. Also, people always seem happy during Christmas time. I also like getting together with the family because we don't see each other every other day. At least we get together then."
Daniel Bosque:
"What I like about Christmas is the music, the coloured lights, and that everyone is really nice."
Nicole Tesorio:
"I really enjoy getting together with family because you are with everyone you love and it makes you feel really happy."
Sonia Rodas:
"I love getting presents, but there's also a deeper meaning to that day."
Raul Rodas:
"Presents!"
Jenilee Grzywo:
"Christmas morning is always fun. You go down, see all the presents, it just makes you happy."
Jeremy Manna:
"What I really like about the holidays is that you don't have to stay out in the cold weather, instead you can stay indoors and be warm."
Nelson Villafuerte:
"The last Christmas we spent in El Salvador was the greatest. I still remember what we did and ate. The whole family was there in a restaurant, it was really great."
Trevor Thomas:
"I like the presents, but I also find it really fun when we have to clean up."
