University chaplains met in Ottawa

The Canadian Catholic Campus Ministry (CCCM) held its annual conference in Ottawa June 3-16.
The conference attracted 37 chaplains from Catholic universities and colleges across Canada.
Father Don MacLellan, a conference organizer and chaplain at Carleton University, said the campus ministers face the challenge of how "to foster a holy and holistic university lifestyle."
During the conference, we attempted to answer that question by focusing on sharing our ministry with each other.
We spoke about the successes, the challenges and the failures so that we would have the opportunity to not only learn from each other but to have a stronger sense of solidarity in common ministry.
Diane Pitfield, former director of counselling and pastoral services at St. Paul University, facilitated several sessions which highlighted the role of chaplains to mentor one another and to be good mentors for students.
As well, Archbishop Marcel Gervais of Ottawa and Bishop John Sherlock of London, Ont., celebrated Eucharist with the group.
Sherlock is stepping down as accompanying bishop for university chaplaincy and will be replaced by Bishop Raymond Roussin of Victoria.
