Miller wins Catholic health care award

Redemptorist Father Mark Miller of Edmonton has received Canada's highest award for Catholic health care, the 1999 Performance Citation.
Miller received the award from the Catholic Health Association of Canada at its recent annual convention here.
The citation is meant to recognize outstanding commitment to the values of Catholic health care ministry.
Miller is director of the Redemptorist Bioethics Consultancy in Edmonton. He also works as ethics consultant for the Catholic Health Association of Saskatchewan and is a member of the ethics committee for St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon.
He writes regularly for the Prairie Messenger, a Catholic weekly newspaper in Saskatchewan and frequently gives public lectures..
Miller has been involved in the preparation of health information protection legislation for Saskatchewan and has played an important role in the province's legislation concerning advance health care directives.
"Those who nominated Father Miller attested to his professional achievements in ethics; noting his enthusiasm, energy, dedication and professionalism," said Gerald Herkel, CHAC chairperson.
"At the same time they described Father Miller as a person who possesses a keen interest in all aspects of human life and demonstrates a deep sense of compassion," Herkel said.
