Teach youth the faith, Que. bishops told:
The Church in Canada should pay close attention to young people's pastoral care and avoid its potential pitfalls, Pope John Paul said. "I invite the faithful to mobilize themselves without end to transmit the faith and Christian values to children," the pope told bishops from Quebec April 22.
Pope draws links between art, faith:
In an open letter, Pope John Paul has affirmed the Catholic Church's esteem for artists and the spiritual value of art. "Even beyond its typically religious expressions, true art has a close affinity with the world of faith," the pope wrote in the April 23 message to artists.
Knights defend Vatican role at UN:
The head of the Knights of Columbus has decried efforts by Catholics for a Free Choice to urge the United Nations to remove the Holy See's status as a UN permanent observer. In a letter to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, Supreme Knight Virgil Dechant called the efforts "an empty gesture that typifies the work of that organization." Dechant said the group "should have considered the important activities the Holy See has undertaken, through the centuries, in the field of diplomacy."
