Wainwright youth plan to host rally
By RAMON GONZALEZ WCR Staff Writer Edmonton
Hundreds of young Catholics from across Alberta are expected to gather here next month for a major youth rally.
Organizers have sent invitation letters to about 90 parishes across the province to what they hope will be a fun and faith filled event.
We Are One With the Lord is the theme of the rally at Blessed Sacrament High School March 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The rally's purpose is to "get a group of kids together and become one and learn more about being Catholic and just get to know each other," said organizer Cassy Bannister, 17.
She expects about 300 junior and senior high students to participate in the event, which will feature speakers, study sessions, music, singing and dancing.
Shirley Witholt, a teacher at Blessed Sacrament, is one of two speakers expected to address the rally. The Streetnix, an acappella band from Saskatoon, will provide the music.
Bannister, one of three rally organizers, said participants can expect three things: "To meet new friends, have fun and learn more about their faith."
