Licence plates prepare for 2000
By RAMON GONZALEZ WCR Staff Writer Edmonton
Archbishop Joseph MacNeil's car is now sporting a new licence plate - a Jubilee 2000 plate given to him by the pastor of Assumption Parish.
Father Archie MacKenzie presented the plate to the archbishop Dec. 21. The white plastic plate has the Church's Jubilee 2000 symbol in the centre with the inscription Christ Yesterday, Today, Forever. Above the symbol is the inscription Jubilee 2000.
Assumption Parish made 1,000 plates along with decals, magnets and coasters to celebrate the jubilee and raise funds for the parish.
The plates sell for $5 each; decals and magnets for 50 cents each; coasters are four for a dollar.
MacKenzie predicts he will have to order several thousand more plates as other parishes, including St. Theresa in Millwoods and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Sherwood Park, have shown interest in the idea.
"I think this is a great idea," MacNeil said of the commemorative plates. "It's a good way of helping people know that we will celebrate the Jubilee 2000."
